Passive Slabs Ireland
Tailor Designed & Engineered to Your Home
Saving you time, energy & money, while providing exceptionally low u-values, eliminating cold bridging, and most importantly – a comfortable, future-proof, forever home for you and your family.
What Is An Insulated Foundation System?
Our Passive Insulated Foundation System is an alternative to a traditional strip foundation, achieving a Passive floor u-value of 0.10 W/m2k. A thermal break is designed between the wall & the foundation, eliminating thermal bridging at one of a building’s most common cold junctions. When combined with our interlocking Closed Panel system, the result is a highly-insulated & airtight home designed to surpass building regulations and achieve high Building Energy Ratings – including Passive House Certification.
With a traditional strip foundation, cold bridging is virtually impossible to eliminate & costly to reduce.
When building an energy efficient, future-proof home, it’s important to start with a well designed, highly efficient Passive Foundation. While the u-value of a standard strip foundation may seem good, this is not often the case. Gaps when cutting & laying PIR insulation, along with failure to seal key junctions can lead to poor thermal conductivity & airtightness.

Benefits of a Passive Slab
Complete System
No need to cut & lay PIR insulation boards.
Faster & Cheaper
Speed means time & cost savings for your build.
Exceeds Build Regs
A simple way to achieve a passive floor u-value.
Finished Floor
No need to lay additional screed.
No Drying Out Time
No drying out time before laying tiles or laminate.
No Cold Bridging
Eliminates critical wall to floor cold bridging.
Reduced Heat Loss
Reduces loss through rising walls from 65% to 12%.
Environmentally Friendly
50% less concrete & insulates with air, not gas.
Eliminates Condensation
Reduces the risk of condensation, fungus & mould.
Did you know – the better your wall insulation, the colder the wall to floor cold bridge becomes?
This increases the rate of heat loss & the risk of condensation, fungus & mould growth above the skirting. Insulating the wall to floor junction is crucial to increased energy efficiency of a highly insulated & airtight home.

Insulated Raft Vs Strip Foundation
Insulating wall to floor junctions is crucial to the energy efficiency of a highly insulated & airtight home. Did you know – the more you insulate the walls & floor, the colder the wall to floor cold bridge becomes? This increases the rate of heat loss & the risk of condensation, fungus & mould growth above the skirting. If a Passive House was built using a standard Irish foundation, this would be the case. So when building an energy efficient, future-proof home, it’s important to start with a well designed, highly efficient Passive Foundation.
With a traditional strip foundation, cold bridging is virtually impossible to eliminate & costly to reduce. While the u-value calculation of your floor may seem low with a standard foundation, this is not often the case. Gaps when cutting & laying PIR insulation, along with failure to seal key junctions can lead to poor thermal conductivity and airtightness. The layers of plastic applied below & above a traditional foundation can trap condensation, driving moisture into the insulation & leading to deterioration of its insulating capabilities over time. In comparison, our tailor designed EPS insulated boards are unaffected by moisture, ensuring that the Lambda value of the insulation remains at its highest efficiency.
Our Passive Insulated Foundation system achieves a Passive floor u-value of 0.10 W/m2k, & unlike a standard strip foundation, our system is uniquely designed & engineered to your build.

Does It Work Out Cheaper?
Timber Frame Homes in Ireland
Preparing Your Site
Prior to arriving on site, all we require is a;
- Level site to the engineer’s spec.
- All service ‘pop-ups’ installed.
Once installed, the concrete slab is then poured in top.
This is the finished floor, with no additional screed required.
