With a traditional strip foundation, cold bridging is virtually impossible to eliminate & costly to reduce. While the u-value calculation of your floor may seem low with a standard foundation, this is not often the case. Gaps when cutting & laying PIR insulation, along with failure to seal key junctions can lead to poor thermal conductivity and airtightness. The layers of plastic applied below & above a traditional foundation can trap condensation, driving moisture into the insulation & leading to deterioration of its insulating capabilities over time.
