Is a Passive Home Worth It?
Passive Homes allow for related energy savings of up to 90% in comparison to traditional methods such as masonry construction.
Passive Houses use less than 1.5 litres of oil per square meter of living space per year – much less than other low-energy buildings.
- Passive Houses are also known for high levels of comfort. They use free energy resources such as the body heat from the residents or solar gain rather than paid energy where possible.
- Triple glaze windows and a closed panel structure such as timber frame with highly insulated exterior walls, roof and an insulated floor slab keep the home warm in winter and cool in summer.
By 2025, the European Parliament expect Passive Homes will become the construction standard across the EU.
Why Passive?
- Highly insulated build
- Airtight construction
- Thermal bridge free
- Highly energy efficient windows
- Orientation designed to take advantage of sun and shade
- The use of heat recovery ventilation to regulate heating and cooling
